Alex went out with his family to roll around and show love for a great source of support in our community – Eblen Charities – for their Walk, Run, and Roll!  Don’t know about Eblen?  They support students in our schools access food, clothing, glasses, medications and so much more.  Want to know more?  Ask us or check out their website – http://www.eblencharities.org/  And while your at it, consider going out some time to volunteer or support a non-profit in our community!  Want to go on a volunteering outing with Blue Ridge Treks?  Let us know!

Volunteering with ABCCM

Last Thursday I had the opportunity to participate in Keller Williams’ Red Day – a day of service for over 80,000 Keller Williams associates across the country! It was amazing to work alongside Veterans, professional kitchen staff, and the volunteer crew. The Asheville Buncombe Community Christian Ministry (ABCCM) operates several facilities in the area and I was posted at the Veteran’s Restoration Quarters. They provide housing and meals for over 240 homeless Veterans while offering the opportunity for off-site jobs, education through AB-Tech, and mandatory on-site service for anyone not employed or going to school. The attitude of the kitchen crew was positive and energized, and it was cool to overhear the education on-site Culinary Arts students received in their certificate program. More humbling was the attitude of the 125-150 Veterans who came through the meal line: thankful, kind, proud, hopeful. This is one of the many service opportunities that Alex and I will offer to Blue Ridge Treks participants each month. Check out their website for ongoing needs – http://www.abccm.org/ministries/veterans. We look forward to sharing this journey of service with you.

Ledges Park Cleanup

By | Service Projects | No Comments

Blue Ridge Treks participated in their first service project today to celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr. and bring in the new year with service!  Alex, Joe, Alisa and Joey filled up 3 large trash bags and 2 large recycling bags along the banks of the French Broad and the banks of Riverside Dr. at Ledges Whitewater River Park.  It was a great time and Alex and Joe were lucky to have two huge supporters out to share the day.  Other folks were out enjoying the water, walking dogs and spending time by the river!  We can’t wait to get some of our participants out and show them the joy of working together to make something better!

Discovery

By | Core Components | 4 Comments

One of the core components of the Blue Ridge Treks program is Discovery. Discovery consists of exploring and learning new aspects of one’s self as well as their relations with others and nature. To develop meaning in action and purpose in life, the Discovery component of Blue Ridge Treks helps clients see how their actions affect themselves, others and the broader community. We hope our therapy services can have a positive impact on youth and families by instilling a desire to Discover more and more about themselves and their relationships. Please jump in and share your thoughts!
