Jen Riley, LCSW

Greetings! I’m Jen and I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) who has spent time in a variety of settings, from foster care and school systems to community mental health and primary care offices. Working in diverse environments has offered me an opportunity to examine how we approach and interact with these systems in our society as well as how they can influence the way in which we view ourselves and each other. This made me passionate about treating the whole person and not just the “problem” that one may see from a particular lens. I joined Blue Ridge Treks (BRT) in 2021 excited about an opportunity to combine my passion for helping others with exploring alternate ideas for what therapy and healing looks like. I believe everyone’s path is unique and will need something different so my style of working with people is heavily relationship-based and always client-centered and led. I will spend time getting to know you and together we will find the path to healing that feels right to you.

In my work with individuals of all ages, I pull from many different styles of therapy which may include finding coping strategies to manage when you’re feeling overwhelmed, engaging in mindfulness practices and somatic experiencing, exploring relationships, identifying patterns of thoughts and behaviors, or simply offering a safe space to talk about life and the everyday challenges you are faced with. I believe incorporating movement, fresh air, and being in nature can aid the therapeutic process so I may invite you on a walk during our time together – but not to worry, we also have a comfy couch indoors if that’s what you prefer!

When not at work I enjoy spending time playing with my sweet and energetic pup, lazing in a hammock, being outdoors, and on or near water of any form. I try to stay active and have fun by going on hikes, practicing yoga, and playing kickball. I’m always up for an adventure and love to learn new things!

Part of my job at Blue Ridge Treks is to help you find and get connected to a therapist by walking you through our intake process and helping determine who might be a good fit. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have questions about me, the other providers, or general questions about BRT services.
